- In what way is the project innovative?
Starting from the idea that, in order to positively reach defined educational aims and objectives, Youth work has to use advanced communication techniques, with the awareness that the context – political, social, economical – and the target needs and profiles can quickly change, the innovative nature of the project can be identified in two main points, both referred to the project intellectual outputs:
- the application and the implementation, through the IO1 (the IO1 will be implemented as a series of tailor made short comic strips, through which young new migrants and refugees will be able to improve, with the youth workers support, their knowledge of the heritage, habits and language of the host countries) of the process of using comics to communicate and supporting the youth work in developing effective channels of communication with the goal to reach out multi-target groups and to work on different topics.
- The design and implementation of an user friendly guide – IO2 (the guide is going to be a digital book that accompanies youth workers step by step through the process of using comics to communicate, providing examples, case histories, techniques) – to develop and strengthen the process of using comics to communicate, tested in the IO1.
This supporting tool will let youth workers to custom and re-process the IO1. In addition the cross-sectoral partnership itself is innovative as the partnership heterogeneity is going to allow the professional technical and visual development of the outputs; the exchange of best practices; the promotion of Erasmus + programs among new entities and new contexts.
- In what way is the project complementary to other projects already carried out?
The project is aligned with all the efforts aimed at the promotion of new educational tools and with the mode of action and philosophy of approach of Erasmus + Youth, widely expressed by Salto and in particular by Salto toolbox. On the other hand the project is complementary to many activities and projects focused on the STRIPS topics we found and learnt about, in particular on the good practices on SALTO platform. Last but not least, the project is online with KSS mission to promote young people, young new migrants and refugees well-being and integration path and it is complementary to projects already carried out by the other two partners. In particular STRIPS project will complement a previous project delivered by Integra ‘‘The suitcase, the map and the voyage of a youth worker” and the project represents a further step for Bluebook for the promotion of social integration and equal opportunities campaigns.
- How are you going to involve the project participants?
The participants are directly involved during the whole project life: they are involved in the IO1 preparatory phase, in the IO1 editing phase, in the IO1 testing phase, in the Dissemination labs in youth centers and NGOs, in the multiplier events.
Preparatory phase
Before start designing and developing the IO1, the project will take off by interviewing a selection of beneficiaries and by running focus groups. The activities will be devoted to focus on the framework of the intellectual output (contents, figures, etc.) with the aim to investigate and identify the IO milestones to respond to the project objectives and to the target needs. The interviews and the following focus groups will involve 30 people (youth workers and people working with the second main target-young new migrants and refugees), 10 in each partner’s country.
Editing phase
In order to create a kit of tools (the comic strips and the guide) perfectly suited to the objectives, the partnership will involve a team of experts (youth workers and people working with the second main target young new migrants and refugees). This group of people represents the same key stakeholders participating to the above mentioned phase, but, according to this goal the criteria for the selection will be different. The objective of this activity is a final adjustment of the contents, in terms of appropriateness of language, clarity, readability.
Testing phase
The testing phase is going to be a “test drive”: before the final release, the comic strips will be evaluated, in 3 focus groups (1 in each country) by 10 youth workers, 5 key stakeholders and 15 young new migrants and refugees. The focus groups will let the partners to set up the comics and begin with confidence the dissemination campaign.
Dissemination labs in youth centers and NGOs
The partnership has set the goal to promote the IO1 through labs in youth centers and NGO to implement a capillary action on the local area. Partners will be responsible to carry out the dissemination labs in youth centers and NGO, involving a total amount of 100 youth workers.
The multiplier events
The key stakeholders, together with youth worker and representative sample of the second main target (young new migrants and refugees) will be actively involved in the debate, through a serie of focus concerning the individual, social, formal, and political dimensions of recognition of non-formal learning and youth work, concerning the current tools available to non-formal educators to foster integration.
- What are the project main channels of dissemination?
The main channel of dissemination is the Internet. We’ll enhance the project’s visibility mainly by the project website, the project Facebook page, the e-mail, the newsletter, youtube, the official Erasmus+ Project Results Platform. The project results and its outputs will be released by the above mentioned channels as OERs.
- What are OERs?
The OERs – Open Educational Resources – are any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The OERs issue is a key point of interest for the whole partnership: we’re going to work on this direction, sharing the idea that the open access to educational materials is crucial for our educational system, above all when we look at the education system under a long life learning vision.
- What is, in detail, the IO1?
The Intellectual output 1 is going to be a kit of comic strips that, coming from a clear understanding of the audience (young new migrants and refugees) will be tailor made specifically to its needs. The kit will be elaborated as a series of short comic strips, through which young new migrants and refugees will be able to improve, by the mean of the youth workers support, their knowledge of the heritage, habits and language of the countries in which they decided to build their future.
- What is, in detail, the IO2?
The Intellectual Output 2 is going to be a guide, in the form of a digital book. It is strictly linked to the Intellectual Output 1 and it represents the knowledge base on which the flexibility and adaptability of the IO1 is founded. The adopted method will be described as a product development including all the steps involved. The guide will be translated in each partner’s language and will be disseminated through the above mentioned media.
- What a Transnational meeting is?
The transnational meetings are the tool by which the partners meet each other during the project life. Usually one meeting in each partners’ country is planned, but this is not a condition. The number of transnational meetings are planned during the application phase and are usually supplemented by virtual meetings: today easy to be hold by tools as Skype. The transnational meetings and the virtual meetings are crucial for the success of a project as they strengthen the team working, the prevention of potential project risks and the link among partners at European level.
- What a Multiplier event is?
A multiplier event is an event that is organized to share the intellectual outputs of a project with a wider audience. Usually it is one of the most important dissemination tool of a Strategic partnership project. - What are the expected positive impact on targeted people?
By a general point of view, as regards the participants and the project stakeholders, the positive impact we expect to get are a more positive attitude towards the focused topics; a more active participation and increased competence in Erasmus+ programme; an increased competence in project topics; a better understanding of the connections between formal and non formal education. As regards the the impact on the main second target group (young new migrants and refugee) the project is going to better their knowledge about culture, heritage, habits and language of the hostIng countries; to improve their social integration; to increase their motivation and satisfaction, their active participation as new European citizens. Finally, as regards the project’s partners, we are sure we’ll increase our capacity to work at European level: our expertise on the project topics; our chance to test new methodologies in designing, implementing and evaluating educational non formal tools; our visibility, networks and positive attitude towards the European project and the European values.
- How will you manage the project sustainability?
Regarding project sustainability, first of all, all partners will improve the already existing stable network for project continuation. Furthermore, each partners will take advantage, within their institutional activity, of the project deliverables and outputs that will be built to become transferable: the project foresees high quality deliverables that can be easily and widely integrated in the activities of target groups and partners organizations. During the last month’s project a detailed sustainability plan will be drawn: we’ll released it on the project website.
